Internal Audit Manager
. This is a newly created leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a high-impact internal audit function that supports governance, risk management, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

The Role

As Internal Audit Manager, you will serve as the Chief Audit Executive, responsible for delivering strategic audit planning, assurance services, and business insights that enhance Council's operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the internal audit function and mentoring the Internal Audit Officer.
  • Designing and implementing Council's annual internal audit and business improvement program.
  • Providing expert advice on internal controls, risk mitigation, and performance improvement.
  • Supporting the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) and contributing to Council's governance framework.
  • Managing relationships with external audit providers and internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and accountability.

About You

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative leader with:

  • Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act and public sector compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive organisational improvement.
  • Membership or certification with a recognised internal audit professional body.
  • High-level analytical, communication, and report writing skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in internal auditing.
  • Extensive experience in Local or State Government is desirable but candidates from the private sector would also be considered.
