Make an impact at Serco

As a Deputy Contract & Operations Manager in our Defence Leadership Group, you'll play a pivotal role in the operational management of the RSV Nuyina Icebreaker contract. In this dynamic and hands-on role, you'll support day-to-day operations and contract delivery for one of Australia's most unique and high-profile maritime contracts. Working closely with the Contract Manager, you'll lead day-to-day maritime operations, strengthen customer relationships, and create opportunities for contract growth while keeping our teams safe, engaged, and supported.

As a Deputy Contract and Operations Manager, you'll make a positive impact by:

  • Managing daily maritime operations to ensure safe, efficient service delivery
  • Supporting planning for seasonal voyages, port calls, logistics, and crewing
  • Overseeing compliance with maritime regulations and internal standards
  • Liaising with stakeholders, clients, and authorities to maintain operational readiness
  • Coordinating and supporting workforce recruitment, onboarding, and engagement initiatives
  • Overseeing contract administration, reporting, and compliance activities
  • Identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  • Driving innovation, process improvements, and cost optimisation opportunities

To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • Strong experience in maritime operations
  • Strong understanding of maritime regulations and operational risk (against ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MLC, MARPOL etc.)
  • Tertiary qualifications in Marine Engineering, Business, Management or similar (desirable)
  • Experience in contract management or Defence industry roles
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of contract law, governance, finance, and risk analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and contract management systems
