The Deputy Secretary is part of the Department's executive team and assists the Secretary in supporting and advising the Department's Ministers and in providing leadership, governance and cultural change across the Department. As one of four Deputy Secretaries, this position is responsible for the strategic functions of the Department, including the Office of the Secretary, Strategic Communications and Organisational Change. In addition, the Deputy Secretary leads the Department's Corporate Services, encompassing, Finance, Human Resources, Information Services, Wellbeing Services and other outputs as allocated.
Major Duties- Provide high-level strategic advice to the Minister, Secretary and other Agencies on a range of issues, which have strategic and/or critical impact on both Government policy and the Department's objectives.
- Represent the Department and act as an advocate for Government and Departmental policy across a wide range of forums, in often-sensitive negotiations encompassing issues affecting both Government and the Department.
- Manage issues on behalf of the Department and in consultation with the Ministerial Offices.
- Provide leadership to allocated Output managers, ensuring that their leadership and management practices align with corporate direction, values and contemporary management principles.
- Develop and implement change management strategies, systems and programs to improve service delivery, efficiency, effectiveness and productivity for the Department.
- Participate and collaborate as a member of and with the Department's Executive team in governing the efficient and effective management of the Department, including contributing to strategic and business planning, communications, marketing and the management and development of staff.
- As a key member of the Department's senior executive team, undertake an active leadership role in meeting whole-of-agency objectives and provide strategic leadership for the Department's involvement in major reforms and initiatives across human resources, finance and service delivery.

Desirable RequirementsTertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline are considered beneficial for this position, together with considerable leadership and management experience at senior executive level.
