
Family Support Counsellor

Family Support Counsellor in a Youth Housing Service delivering:
- Counselling Service Delivery - Provide high quality counselling, intake, assessment, referral, and advocacy services counselling families and carers of children and establishing a relationship of trust and respect with service users.
- Group Facilitation - Develop, plan and organise group work for the maximum impact for participants including facilitating the Parenting & Enjoying Teenagers Program for parents and carers and Young Parent's Group, and other group work as identified.
- External Training support - Provide support to identify opportunities for BABI training services to be implemented which support the outcomes of the Family Support Counsellor Service Contract.
- Timely completion of quality professional reports (internally and externally) - Ensure evaluations are collected, analysed and reviewed to ensure the continuous improvement of groups and individual services, ensuring accurate data has been entered for periodic reporting, and maintaining service users record/case notes.
- Supporting and contributing to a highly productive BABI staff team in achieving high quality outcomes for young people.

This position is on a part-time basis until Friday 25th June 2026, for 26.5 hours per week, classified at Level 5.1 and will continue dependent on BABI funding (Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010).

Key Selection Criteria (KSC)
Demonstrated competency in the following areas is required:
KSC1: An ability to understand and identify the barriers facing families to successfully engage in their community.
KSC2: A demonstrated ability to identify the factors that contribute to successful parenting.
KSC3: A demonstrated ability in providing counselling, group facilitation, life skills and personal development workshops to support families.
KSC4: Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written), the ability to remain professional in challenging situations, and the ability to solve problems and resolve issues that arise in service delivery.
KSC5: A demonstrated ability to build networks and partnerships and work collaboratively with appropriate government and non-government service providers.
KSC6: Proven ability to work autonomously (time/self-management) and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
Required: A current 'Working with Children' Blue Card or ability to secure a Blue Card, current unrestricted open Driver's Licence, First Aid Certificate (BABI can assist you to gain a First Aid Certificate), successful Police Check.
