About the Role
As a Senior Mental Health Clinician with significant experience within Eating Disorders, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in providing clinical services to consumers presenting with complex Eating Disorders. You will draw on your knowledge as a Senior clinician to support the team in providing evidence based clinical interventions for consumers who are referred for the Austin Eating disorder Unit as well as the Day Patient Program.

  • Allocation of work and duties across the multi-disciplinary team
  • Track and evaluate both team and individual performance targets
  • Liaise with the Austin EDU for referrals
  • Participate in all aspects of the Day program and intake service

Classifications for this position will range from:

  • OT/SW Grade 3 YB24 - YB27 or YC46 - YC49 ($101,597 - $116,074 per annum pro rata)
  • RPN Grade 4 NP75 - NP77 ($112,465 - $121,113 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution

  • Minimum 7 years post graduate mental health experience within eating disorders

LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

St. Vincent's Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner-city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. The Adult Mental Health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), a 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent's Hospital Fitzroy Campus, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS) consisting  of Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment Service (MSTS) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services,  Psychiatric Triage and Crisis Assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Police, Ambulance and Clinical Response (PACER), ED Mental Health, Extended Triage and The Primary Intervention Care Team (PICT), Hospital Outreach Post Suicide Engagement (HOPE), Supporting Tenants at Yarra Housing Project (STAY).

A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the general health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS) are regional services. State-wide services include the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to and supported by the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.

POSITION PURPOSE

The BETRS Clinical Lead will report to the Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist of the BETRS program. The Clinical Lead will oversee the work completed by the clinicians and ensure that the program functions optimally in line with clinical guidelines and mental health policies for the Day Program, individual therapies offered, and referrals for the Austin Eating Disorder Unit (EDU). They will assist with monthly staff supervision to ensure the teamwork within activity-based funding requirements, and provide clinical support to clinicians across disciplines to achieve the outcomes of the program.
 

POSITION DUTIES
  • Assess and monitor consumer progress in accordance with treatment guidelines. 
  • Participate in all aspects of work including: assessments, work ups for day program, key worker sessions, Day Program modules and any other areas within the program as required.
  • Track and evaluate both team and individual performance targets to ensure compliance with SVHM policies and procedures. 
  • Liaise with the Austin EDU NUM regarding Intake of consumers requiring admission to the Austin Eating Disorders Unit
  • Follow safe procedures, including documenting RiskMan incidents, conducting audits, educating staff on new policies, and performing safety inspections. 
  • In the absence of the Manager, lead the team to ensure continuity of operations. 
  • Provide biweekly updates to team members regarding activity-based funding targets to ensure they are met. 
  • Actively engage in all clinical aspects of the eating disorder program, promoting a hands-on approach. 
  • Organise and schedule staff activities using a shared calendar to ensure equitable workload distribution. 
  • Deliver training sessions on evidence-based treatments for eating disorders to both internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Facilitate effective communication for consumer transfers between St Vincent's Mental Health and The Austin Eating Disorders Unit (EDU). 
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to review cases of eating disorder consumers in medical wards, ensuring comprehensive care. 
  • Offer expert clinical support and guidance in the area of eating disorders to both staff and consumers. 
  • Provide targeted supervision and mentorship to staff and students within the discipline. 
  • Embrace and implement a recovery-oriented approach that emphasises consumer strengths. 
  • Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of related policies and procedures. 
  • Foster collaboration between St Vincent's medical ward and the Eating Disorders Unit (EDU) to enhance patient care. 
  • Perform all other tasks not outlined that are within the scope of practice of the incumbent.
  • May be required to be redeployed within the SVHM to ensure service delivery.
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and supporting them to meet the requirements of a program
  •  5 years experience working within Eating Disorder programs

ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of under graduate Degree in Occupational Therapy OR Masters of Clinical Practice in Occupational Therapy. Social Workers - An approved degree in Social Work (by the AASW) and eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. International Social Workers will need to be able to provide evidence of their assessment of international qualifications from the AASW (inclusive of the reference number).RPN's completion of post graduate studies in MH.
  • SW & OT, minimum 7 years post graduate mental health experience, RPN's usually at least 5 years.
  • OT's & RPN's Current registration with AHPRA, with no current undertakings
  • Postgraduate studies in an appropriate related course (desirable)
  • Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain
  • Driver's license

  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including problem solving ability and conflict resolution skills, as well as sound oral and writing skills.
  • Experience in developing and evaluating programs 
  • Strong leadership qualities 
  • A working knowledge of the Mental Health and wellbeing Act (2022), The Carer Recognition Act
  • A working knowledge of the Victorian Eating Disorder Strategy
