What to Expect
Tesla Energy is continuing to expand at a rapid pace across the APAC region and is now seeking a Validation Engineer to provide critical support to our Megapack deployment and engineering teams.
This role involves high-level technical alignment with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure world-class validation processes are conducted on all new and existing hardware and firmware across Tesla's utility-scale product portfolio. As a Validation Engineer, you will focus on identifying gaps in existing control systems logic and firmware through thorough assessments, while ensuring alignment with specific APAC market standards and regulations.
You will collaborate closely with engineering and firmware development teams to address these gaps, actively participate in the firmware development process through design reviews and testing strategies, and continuously validate new firmware iterations with rigorous testing before production to ensure seamless integration and reliability.
Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining the integrity and performance of our energy solutions in diverse regional markets, supporting Megapack deployments, and driving innovation in sustainable energy solutions.
What You'll Do
- Familiarize yourself with existing and forthcoming AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) and National Service Provider (NSP) requirements for ongoing and future projects.
- Identify and communicate gaps in meeting these requirements to engineering and development teams.
- Ensure continued adherence to regional requirements as new system control features are developed.
- Create and execute test plans for new hardware and firmware features, incorporating automation sequences and detailed post-analysis.
- Lead and own test plan definition for new firmware and software features, providing continuous feedback on regional requirements.
- Conduct hands-on testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of product hardware and software.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve issues with hardware and firmware during system bring-up, performance, and safety tests.
- Perform automation platform design for hardware and firmware integration in next-generation Tesla industrial energy storage systems.
- Develop Python code and validate embedded firmware in C and C++.
What You'll Bring
- Hands-on experience with software automation development, as well as mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components, with a strong understanding of their interactions in complex products.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and surface issues within intricate hardware/software systems.
- Effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in challenging circumstances, taking full accountability for assignments.
- Understanding of hardware and software development processes.
- Experience with renewable energy products and/or electricity distribution systems.
- Experience in Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) systems is preferred.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, business development, and firmware development teams.
- Comfort working with uncertainty in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Fluency in Python, familiarity with debuggers, and experience with Git.
- Knowledge of Linux, CI/CD, REST API, Jenkins, and Docker.
- Experience working with databases and dashboarding tools.
- Prior work with renewable energy systems or grid-scale energy storage solutions.
