Position Overview

Your role as a Senior Finance Officer in the aged care or home care sector will be pivotal in ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of services that support elderly and vulnerable individuals. This position is responsible for financial operations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Management and Reporting: Responsible for preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This includes managing general ledgers, reconciling accounts, and preparing monthly and annual reports.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop and manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and provide forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant financial regulations and standards, including those specific to the aged care sector, such as the Aged Care Quality Standards in Australia.
  • Payroll and Accounts Management: Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely payments. Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring efficient cash flow management.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between finance and other departments, providing financial insights and support to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Internal Controls and Audit: Develop and implement internal control systems to safeguard financial assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. Coordinate with auditors during financial audits.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational Background: A degree in finance, accounting, or a related field is required.
  • Professional Certification: Certifications such as CPA or CA are highly regarded.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years in a finance role, with experience in the aged care or healthcare sector being advantageous.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial software (e.g., Xero, MYOB) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Sector-Specific Considerations

In the aged care and home care sectors, financial officers must navigate complex funding models and regulatory requirements. For instance, understanding the Home Care Packages (HCP) program and the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) is crucial. Additionally, familiarity with the Aged Care Quality Standards ensures that financial practices support the delivery of high-quality care services.
