The opportunity

As the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will provide strategic leadership to drive a proactive, compliant, and innovative safety culture across Council. You'll lead the development and implementation of frameworks and programs that support injury prevention, return-to-work, and holistic wellbeing, ensuring Council meets its regulatory obligations and maintains contemporary best practices.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the development and implementation of Council's Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) strategy.
  • Oversee the HSW Management System, ensuring compliance with legislation and standards.
  • Foster a positive safety culture through engagement, education, and coaching.
  • Design and deliver tailored HSW programs and initiatives.
  • Build leadership and employee capability to support a strong HSW culture.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver effective HSW outcomes.
  • Ensure safe systems of work and compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Promote a culture of reporting and continuous improvement in incident management.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualification in OHS, Risk Management, or a related field (minimum Certificate IV in WHS; Graduate Diploma/Master's in OHS desirable).
  • Proven leadership experience in health, safety and wellbeing within complex, multi-stakeholder environments, ideally in government or large organisations.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and executing strategic OHS frameworks.
  • Strong track record in leading major HSW projects, compliance audits, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Expertise in continuous improvement methodologies and data-driven decision making.
  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement, change management, and influencing at all levels.

Pre-Employment Requirements
