We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry to work 10 sessions in NHS Fife CAMHS child and adolescent psychiatry . The post will cover part of the East Fife area based in the CORE EAST team within Playfield House, Stratheden Hospital, Cupar. Clinic rooms are also used in Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy. The service has one core trainee from the south east Scotland training scheme and is approved for Higher training from the Scottish National training scheme.
We have been at the forefront in Scotland in developing an Intensive Therapy Service, including Eating Disorders, to offer community based support for children and young people with severe mental health problems. Other multi-disciplinary teams provide services for young people and children who self harm, for looked after children and for children and young people who have been sexually abused. As speciality doctor in psychiatry you will be required to provide input to all teams, with a special emphasis on the Intensive Therapy Team. CORE Team work will include presentations of anxiety, depression, trauma, eating difficulties, ADHD with co morbid presentations, Autism and psychosis. The medical input into the Tier 2 pathway is provided by paediatricians and into the Tier 3 pathway by a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a Speciality Doctor.
The service values further development of skills, research and sharing information and will offer opportunities for the successful post holder to receive support for research and engage in a range of training events.
In the past 12 months the redesigned multi-agency Neurodevelopmental Pathway (NDP) has been implemented focused on the collaboration of MDT health colleagues and education to provide tailored support around neurodivergence, rather than assessment only.
Candidates preferably should possess their GMC registration but can be sponsored if necessary, have 3 years experience working in psychiatry, and at least 6 months experience in CAMHS,including at least 6 months in a GMC recognised training programme. They must be motivated to undertake the portfolio pathway to specialist registration.

NHS Fife is legally obliged to ensure all its employees are legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom. If you are not a United Kingdom (UK) or Irish National, you are required to confirm your right to work in your application.
To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.
For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or 'going rate'. Further information on these criteria can be found here.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes.
We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
