AWS Cloud Migration Consultant
Are you an AWS Consultant with NV1 Defence Security Clearance and strong Cloud/Platform Migration experience?
Do you have a desire to be part of a mission-critical Federal program with real impact?
The opportunityLead the front end of a large-scale AWS migration & modernisation—from application portfolio assessment through to business case, treatment patterns, and wave planning. This role is consulting-led: you'll run structured workshops, shape the business case (TCO/ROI), and co-design pragmatic 7R pathways that set delivery teams up for success.
What you'll do- Assess application portfolios targeted for migration/modernisation—dependencies, complexity, constraints, non-functionals—producing clear segmentations and "ready/not ready" views for AWS.
- Build the business case for migration & modernisation—TCO/ROI modelling, effort & timeline estimates, benefits realisation plan—using AWS Cloud Economics approaches (e.g., AWS Pricing Calculator, CUR/Cost Explorer inputs).
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops to validate assumptions, refine scope, and drive decisions (risk, treatment selection, landing zone readiness, security, ops).
- Lead Software Licensing Assessment & Optimisation (as required): quantify licence positions (e.g., Microsoft/Oracle/Red Hat), BYOL options, instance/edition rightsizing, and cloud-friendly licensing models to reduce run costs.
- Co-develop application treatment patterns mapped to the 7R's (retain, retire, rehost, relocate, replatform, refactor, repurchase) with concrete AWS exemplars (e.g., MGN/DMS for rehost/replatform, containerisation to ECS/EKS, repurchase to SaaS).
- Co-develop migration wave plans—groupings, sequencing logic, inter-wave dependencies, environment strategy, and cutover approach aligned to risk, value and capacity.
- NV1 Australian Defence Security Clearance (MANDATORY)
- Hands-on AWS migration assessment leadership in enterprise/public sector environments.
- Proven business case ownership: TCO/ROI methods, cloud financial management, and benefits articulation executives trust.
- Workshop facilitation across business and technical stakeholders; comfortable turning ambiguity into structured decisions.
- Licensing optimisation literacy (Windows/SQL Server, Oracle, Red Hat, etc.) and its impact on target AWS architectures and cost.
- Strong grasp of AWS migration tooling & patterns: Landing Zone/Control Tower, Well-Architected, MGN, DMS, Aurora/RDS, containerisation, observability, IAM/security guardrails.
- Clear, concise written deliverables: assessment reports, treatment decision logs, roadmaps, and executive read-outs.
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, or Cloud Practitioner + relevant Pro track).
- Exposure to the AWS MAP playbook, CUDOS/FinOps, and portfolio-level wave orchestration.
- Experience in Commonwealth agency contexts and NV1-cleared teams.
Shape the strategy that delivery depends on. Your work will determine what moves, how, and when—balancing risk, value, and cost to create a migration plan that works.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make an impact, shape project outcomes, and work alongside industry leaders in a collaborative and supportive environment.
The high profile nature of this program will also add significant experience in this rapidly growing sector, and pave the way for similar engagements in the future.
