About the Role
Elevate, in partnership with a leading top-tier law firm, is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to undertake a secondment with a major financial institution. This is an initial 6-month contract with a high possibility of extension for another 9 months.
Based in Melbourne, the role offers flexibility, with the option to work full-time or part-time (minimum 3 days per week), and will commence ASAP.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality legal advice on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters, with a particular focus on public sector financing.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements including loan documentation, supplier agreements, treasury arrangements, and complex financial services contracts.
- Support governance and compliance functions, including statutory reporting, policy development, and board advisory matters.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating legal risks associated with financial products and transactions.
- Engage with internal stakeholders, regulators, government bodies, and external legal counsel to deliver sound commercial and legal outcomes.
- Contribute to corporate governance activities, including board submissions and management of records.
About You
- A minimum of 5 years' post-admission experience, gained in private practice or as in-house legal counsel.
- Strong expertise in financial services, public sector finance, or technology-related matters.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver clear, practical, and commercially focused legal advice.
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills across complex commercial and financial agreements.
- Experience working with regulated transactions and government entities will be highly regarded.
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate law, financial services law, and public sector regulation.
