Our client is a fast-growing organisation in the renewable energy sector, delivering large-scale solar, battery storage, and grid infrastructure projects across Australia. They are committed to advancing the clean energy transition and are seeking an experienced lawyer to join their team.

About the Role:

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide specialist legal and commercial support across the full lifecycle of renewable projects — from site acquisition and development approvals through to financing, construction, operations, and divestment. The role has a strong emphasis on M&A exposure within renewable projects, including supporting financing, joint ventures, and investment transactions, while also advising on construction, land, and grid connection agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of project and corporate agreements, including land access, construction, consultancy, financing, and shareholder/joint venture documents.
  • Provide legal support for M&A and investment processes, ensuring projects are structured and executed to best practice standards.
  • Advise on planning, environmental, and regulatory approvals relevant to renewable energy projects.
  • Partner with commercial, technical, and project delivery teams to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Stay across regulatory and market developments in the energy sector, adapting documentation and advice as required.

About You:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor, with admission to practice in Australia.
  • Significant experience (approx. 8+ years) in energy, infrastructure, and M&A, either in-house or private practice.
  • Demonstrated track record in renewable energy or major infrastructure projects, including exposure to M&A and investment transactions.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proactive and commercially minded, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
