About Hera Engineering
Hera Engineering is one of Australia's fastest-growing structural and civil consultancies, delivering smart, efficient and buildable designs across high-rise, commercial, education, defence, government and infrastructure projects. With offices in Perth, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney, Hera is recognised for technical excellence, value engineering and strategic problem solving.
We are now seeking a National Commercial & Growth Director based in Brisbane, responsible for driving Hera's growth across Queensland and the eastern states. This is a high-impact role for someone who is deeply connected within the construction industry and has a proven ability to generate work through relationships, strategy and commercial leadership.
About the Role
This role is ideal for a senior commercial leader who comes directly from the construction industry and has strong, existing connections with Tier 1 and Tier 2 builders, developers, project managers, architects and consultants across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
You must be an outgoing, relationship-driven operator who enjoys engaging with clients, generating leads, opening doors and positioning Hera for new opportunities. You will be responsible for managing the eastern-states pipeline, driving diversification, securing work and ensuring revenue stability across QLD and ACT. Once these regions are performing, the role will expand to support Western Australia and further national growth.
This is not a passive strategy role. We need someone who can win work, influence the market, direct BD strategy and lead commercial decisions across multiple sectors and states.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Relationship Leadership
- Use your established network to generate leads, secure meetings and convert new work.
- Strengthen relationships with builders, developers, PM firms, architects and government clients.
- Represent Hera with confidence at industry events, networking forums, pitches and key client meetings.
- Drive a proactive BD strategy targeting new sectors such as infrastructure, defence, government, education, industrial, transport and commercial.
- Maintain strong visibility in Brisbane and the Gold Coast to expand Hera's presence and identify new opportunities.
- Lead Hera's growth across QLD and ACT, focusing on medium-to-large projects and long-term client relationships.
- Build a presence in new sectors by identifying opportunities early and positioning Hera appropriately.
- Develop client acquisition strategies aligned with local market conditions in QLD, NSW and ACT.
- Conduct regular market intelligence to anticipate upcoming projects, funding cycles, planning activity and competitor movement.
- Own the eastern-states pipeline (QLD, NSW, ACT), ensuring consistent work-in-hand and sector diversification.
- Coordinate with State Managers to track opportunities, forecast revenue and identify pipeline risks early.
- Ensure each region has enough confirmed and forecasted work to meet quarterly and annual budgets.
- Improve conversion rates through structured pursuit planning and clear qualification processes.
- Lead contract negotiation and commercial risk assessment for all major pursuits in the eastern states.
- Ensure agreements meet Hera's commercial risk appetite and profitability expectations.
- Support project leaders with contractual advice, scope control and variation management.
- Work closely with finance to ensure accurate forecasting, margin performance and commercial governance.
- Contribute to national BD and commercial strategy as part of the senior leadership team.
- Once eastern-states growth targets are achieved, support further expansion into Western Australia and other states as part of Hera's national growth plan.
- Develop nationwide relationships with major builders and clients that operate across multiple states.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Revenue & Pipeline
- Achieve revenue targets in QLD and ACT.
- Maintain minimum three months of confirmed work in hand across all eastern-states offices.

- Measurable increase in key client relationships across construction, development, architectural and PM networks.
