The Wildlife Permissions Team sits within the Permission Management and Ecotourism Unit of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service & Partnerships Division (QPWS&P). The team is responsible for delivering the Wildlife Permits and Commercial Macropod Management Programs. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies relating to conservation legislation, policies, advise and consult with industry, government and the community on macropod management and wildlife permits matters. The role supports the macropod management program by providing technical advice and support on ecological management. The role estimates macropod population sizes through aerial survey and data analysis program and leads the procurement of resources and undertakes staff training.

The position will lead a small team in conservation management and regulation based projects in both office and field environments, including in remote areas and under various weather and climatic conditions.

For This Role, You'll Need To

  • Demonstrate knowledge of macropod species, ecological and environmental management and conservation principles, practices, policies, standards and legislation.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated strong project management skills including policies and practices and associated nature conservation legislation.
  • Demonstrated high level communication (written and verbal) liaison and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research and Excel/Microsoft Office 365 problem solving skills.
  • Role model Team Leader leadership behaviours as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland.
  • Contribute to workplace safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion by bringing your unique experiences and perspectives.
