About your new role
This position will play an active role in managing Network Security and improving maturity and capabilities, maintaining and writing related security standards and processes, uplifting the health monitoring and control effectiveness of Cities cyber stack.
Provide governance and support to ICT projects containing Network security.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead the development, implementation and ongoing management of the City's Network Security infrastructure
- Participate in architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful and secure deployment across Infrastructure
- Lead and develop the City Network Security capability with a focus on policy & governance of firewalls & network security systems (checkpoints, Palo altos, NSGs, f5's etc)
- Strong understanding of NextGEN Firewalls, Network Segmentation, VRFs, SDP, ZTNA, IPS / IDS, SASE, CASB, DNSSEC, TLS, VPN, SIEM, NDR / XDR
- Develop and enforce security policies and Network Security best practices.
- Provide on-call services as required to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of security services.
- Act as primary contact for Firewalls & security systems policy & governance consultation and advice.
- Maintain appropriate documentation around NetSec activities including any risks associated with those actions.
- Monitor and manage Network security incidents including log review.
We're looking for people who have:
- Passion and drive for Cyber Security
- Certified network security or equivalent knowledge
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge
- Certification in cyber security products or equivalent knowledge
- Minimum 2 years experience with Network Security technologies
- Understanding of zero-trust security models, and cloud security frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of network security concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, Proxy, Firewall rules)
- Understanding of various cyber threats, vulnerabilities, risk assessment techniques, and respective mitigation strategies.
- Experience with cloud security, network security, and large COTS product architecture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with CheckPoint NextGEN Firewalls
- CCSA (Check Point Certified Security Administrator) or equivalent experience preferable
- F5 Certified Administrator or equivalent experience preferable
- PCCSA (Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Associate) or equivalent experience preferable
- Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (e.g., PA-series, VM-series)
- Configuring and managing Palo Alto NGFW (Next-Generation Firewalls), Panorama, GlobalProtect, and WildFire
Note: AusCheck is required for this position and participation in a 24x7 on-call roster is mandatory.
