We're looking for an experienced Payroll Manager who brings more than technical know-how. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on stakeholder engagement, embraces continuous improvement, and leads with both confidence and care.
What You'll Be DoingAs our Payroll Manager, you'll take end-to-end ownership of payroll operations – ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency. But beyond that, you'll be the driving force behind payroll transformation, working closely with leaders across HR, Finance, IT, and external vendors to elevate payroll into a strategic business function.
Payroll Operations
- Oversee the full payroll cycle for all employees – ensuring timely and compliant delivery.
- Maintain and enhance payroll systems, records, and reporting processes.
- Lead payroll audits and collaborate with external auditors.
- Resolve complex payroll queries with clarity and confidence.
- Partner with Finance and HR on payroll reconciliations and reporting.
Transformation & Improvement
- Lead payroll transformation projects, including system upgrades and process redesign.
- Identify and implement automation and digitisation opportunities.
- Develop clear, streamlined payroll procedures and documentation.
- Integrate payroll seamlessly with broader business systems and processes.
- Benchmark operations against industry best practice and drive improvement.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with awards, enterprise agreements, tax, superannuation, and employment law.
- Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on payroll.
- Implement robust controls and risk mitigation measures.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead, coach, and mentor payroll team members to ensure high performance and engagement.
- Act as the payroll subject matter expert (SME) across business projects and initiatives.
- Build trusted partnerships with internal stakeholders and external providers.
- Communicate change clearly and effectively, bringing stakeholders on the transformation journey.
- Proven experience in end-to-end payroll management within a complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of relevant legislation, industrial instruments, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated success in delivering payroll process improvements and/or transformation projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – you're confident engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to influence and lead through change.
- People leadership experience, with a focus on coaching and developing others.
