Osborne Richardson are delighted to offer an amazing Aerial Operations Officer roles with the QLD Department of Primary Industry in Southern Brisbane. In this fantastic, contract role, you will be working within the Biosecurity QLD Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce to support and deliver the aerial treatments of approximately 106,000 hectares of known high infestations of fire ants within the suppression area before 30 June 2026. The role will commence ASAP and then run until treatment concludes. At that stage, we would be amazed if the role does not then continue onwards on a new aerial treatment project.

In your role as an Aerial Operations Officer, you will undertake a number of key duties associated with ensuring the helicopter and drone operations of the wider Biosecurity teams is undertaken in an effective and safe manner. In doing so, you will undertake the folllowing:

  • Assisting with the delivery of the aerial treatment and aerial surveillance tasking in accordance with CASA Legislation and Orders; Qld Legislation, Qld Procurement Requirements under QGCPO609 and the Departments' Aviation Safety Policy, Aviation Risk Assessment and Management Procedures
  • Assisting with the development of aerial operations procedures in accordance with the governance and program requirements.
  • Upholding business efficiency and the positive profile of the program through effective communication with members of the public, clients, staff, suppliers and stakeholders and the provision of accurate and relevant information.
  • Engaging with the public through seeking consent to enter properties and maintaining a polite and professional manner both in person and via telephone.
  • Performing approved aerial operations including assisting management with operational planning, organising, directing and evaluating aerial outcomes and priorities, and participating in projects to enable achievement of required targets, including scientific outcomes, in realistic timeframes.
  • Processing routine requests from stakeholders or members of the public as per business procedures to ensure operational arrangements are efficiently and effectively completed.
  • Execution of processes and process controls to ensure that all aerial operations activities are conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assisting all aerial application servicing as required, including refuelling procedures, aerial safety, equipment maintenance, and assist pilots as applicable.
  • Maintenance of registers and demonstrate a high level of record keeping in accordance with department standards.

  1. Experience in the drone or aviation fields, especially in an operational and practical sense, will be highly sought after.
  2. Experience with stakeholder engagement and communication, particularly with primary producers or rural communities, would be well regarded.
  3. A current, unrestricted 'C' class driver's licence
  4. A sound ability to manage all manners of operational works, both in a planned manner over time and on occasions where more haste is needed to make key decisions.
  5. Skills in the use of GIS software such as ArcGIS will be very well regarded

The role itself will ideally be located in Berrinba or Mutdapilly in Southern Brisbane however, there may also be an option to work from Brisbane CBD for exceptional candidates. Pay rate for this role will be $50.37 per Hour + Super, paid weekly.
