Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Elevate-x Full time $120,000 - $150,000 per year

Engineering Manager

  • High impact newly created role
  • Numerous projects in the pipeline with high growth potential
  • Make your mark developing the engineering function

Elevate-X is leading an executive search for a prominent company in the renewable energy sector, with a particular focus on Biogas. Originally founded as an EPC, this client now operates under a "Build, Own, Operate" model, spanning Engineering, Construction and Operations.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role, playing a foundational part in establishing and growing our National Engineering function. You'll work closely with our established Perth-based engineering team and leverage internationally based design capabilities to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions.

You will not only shape technical outcomes but also influence the culture, structure, and strategic direction of our operations in the Eastern States.

This role offers the autonomy to build something meaningful from the ground up—while being backed by a collaborative, high-performing leadership team.

Position Overview:

As a key engineering leader, this position is central to delivering innovative solutions from the earliest concept through to detailed design and final construction.

You will take ownership of the entire design lifecycle, translating initial ideas into fully developed engineering outputs that meet the highest standards of functionality, safety, and efficiency.

Working in a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, you'll lead efforts to shape ideas into tangible, buildable solutions—balancing creativity and precision at every stage. With full autonomy over design decisions and direct reporting to the COO, you'll influence not just products but engineering processes themselves, setting the foundation for a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

As the company enters its next phase of growth, this role holds a pivotal seat at the table—guiding emerging projects, refining procedures, and delivering end-to-end impact from paper to build reality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all engineering activities from concept to completion, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
  • Lead, grow and mentor a multi-discipline engineering team
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and external contractors to optimize resource allocation and maintain seamless project execution across engineering disciplines.
  • Define and manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules, delivering cost-effective outcomes while meeting critical milestones and stakeholder expectations.
  • Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and manuals
  • Ensure designs adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of design iterations and testing outcomes.
  • Implement innovative solutions to overcome technical challenges.
  • Ensuring alignment of objectives, regulatory compliance, and safety benchmarks.
  • Champion continuous improvement, leveraging lessons learned and industry best practices to refine engineering workflows and enhance project delivery performance.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline is essential; postgraduate qualifications or industry certifications (e.g. CPEng, PMP, CSWP) are highly regarded.
  • Proficient in mechanical design principles with hands-on experience using industry-standard tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or FEA software.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex engineering problems through innovative and practical design solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles and proficiency in relevant software tools.
  • Ability to think innovatively and address complex engineering challenges with practical solutions.
  • Capability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and convey technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
  • Precision in creating designs that emphasize functionality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Flexibility to operate in diverse settings, including offices, manufacturing facilities, or on-site locations.
  • Skill in managing projects autonomously, with the confidence to reshape engineering processes and procedures when necessary.
  • Prior experience in mechanical design with a minimum 8 years, ideally within industrial, infrastructure or Water Treatment environments
  • Experience with small EPC style projects ($30-$60m) & SMP

With Australia's evolving environmental policies and a significant push towards renewable energy, this company is well-positioned to capitalise on the opportunities within the renewable sector due to its early market entry and extensive industry expertise.
