We currently have a vacancy for a civil design engineer with experience in urban development in both brown field and green field sites.

We predominantly work within the commercial & industrial space, with subdivision and industrial/commercial estate project work also being undertaken.

Our civil team consists of eight (8) civil engineers at various stages in their career who depending on their level of experience either design, model or draft the projects we work on.

Our goal at Sparks & Partners is to develop engineers who are well rounded and do not get stuck doing the same design items on projects. We do this by providing regular training and aligning that training to exposure on projects.

Requirements of the role

You will have an eagerness to learn and development yourself as a well-rounded civil engineer with the ability to apply engineering first principles to solve design problems and coordinate with members of the project team.

Ideally you will have a minimum of three (3) years exposure with a similar organisation and hold a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from an Australian university or recognised degree from Engineers Australia.

Design Experience

The following design experience would be advantageous in your application. We understand that during one's career development you may not have been exposed to all of these areas of civil engineering design. In this regard, please comment on what design experience you have in your application.

  • Sediment & erosion control – Design sediment and erosion control measures in accordance with the Blue Book or IECA guidelines.
  • Bulk earthworks – Undertake bulk earthworks levels design and analysis with consideration to AS3798.
  • Stormwater drainage – Design drainage systems in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS3500.3, QUDM, NCC, Various Council Engineering Guidelines including pipe drainage, on-site stormwater detention and local overland flow.
  • WSUD – Understand the purpose of Water Sensitive Urban Design and design WSUD treatment measures to meet authority requirements.
  • Pavement grading – Design carparks and hardstand areas in accordance with AS2890.1, AS2890.2, AS2890.6 and AS1428.1
  • Pavement design – Undertake structural design of pavements in accordance with the requirements of Austroads, T48
  • Retaining wall spatial design – Undertake spatial design of retaining walls to confirm height and extent.
  • Retaining wall structural design – Undertake structural design of retaining walls in accordance with AS4678.
  • Public Domain – Design public domain areas and upgrades in accordance with local government requirements.
  • Road Design – Design roads and intersection in accordance with the requirements of with relevant road authority e.g. Council or TfNSW.
  • Flooding – Assess flooding and undertake analysis of flood impacts in accordance with local authority requirements.
  • Report Writing – Ability to summarise the outcomes of the engineering design into a concise document that can be submitted to the local authority, client and project team.

Software Experience

Exposure to the following software is advantageous but not critical. Please comment on your perceived level of experience when making your application.

  • Civil3D – Preferred but not strictly required. Experience with Autocad, 12D or Civil Site Design will be acceptable
