Are you passionate about maintaining beautiful public spaces and leading others to achieve great results? The City is seeking a proactive and experienced Leading Hand – Parks to join our dedicated Parks and Environment team.
About the role
Reporting to the Supervisor Parks, you will lead a small team responsible for the operational maintenance and presentation of the City's parks and gardens. You'll take pride in ensuring our green spaces are safe, sustainable, and maintained to the highest horticultural and turf standards.
A snapshot of your new role:
- Lead, support and develop a team of Park Attendants to deliver quality maintenance outcomes.
- Implement and monitor maintenance schedules, landscape plans, and service requests.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with the Parks & Environment Work Practice Manual and relevant Australian Standards.
- Provide clear turf and horticultural direction to your team and encourage multi-skilling and continuous learning.
- Carry out turf mowing, edging, brush cutting, planting, fertilising, irrigation maintenance and weed control.
- Conduct daily pre-start checks, operate plant and machinery safely, and oversee proper traffic management practices.
- Respond to customer service requests and resolve issues efficiently and professionally.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that reflects the City's values and commitment to community care.
What you will bring to the role:
- Current & Valid Western Australian 'LR' class drivers license
- Trade Certificate or progress towards a minimum of a Horticulture Certificate III (or equivalent Parks & Gardens / Sports Turf Management) or demonstrated at least 5 years' experience leading a small team in horticultural / agricultural operations
- Small plant operation and maintenance training
- Occupational Health and Safety training and knowledge of safety issues relevant of Horticultural operations
- White Card
- Current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one)
