Our Organisation

The Benevolent Society's vision is to build a just society where all Australians can live their best life. We are an independent, non-religious service provider, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians; children, young people and their families; older people; carers and those at the margins of society.

We are strongly committed to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia. We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting the economic, political, and social inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the role

As our Disability Services Coordinator for the Disability Gateway, you will be the first point of contact for clients seeking support with information, services, and referrals. The Disability Gateway is a national program that assists people with disability, their families, and carers to find and access services across Australia.

In this role, you will connect with people who each have unique needs and circumstances. By listening with empathy and providing clear, accurate guidance, you will create an experience where clients feel heard, respected, and supported. You will also help individuals navigate complex systems, such as the NDIS and My Aged Care, and turn what might feel overwhelming into something more manageable.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 8:00pm. While you'll be part of the broader Support Centre, your focus will be on delivering the Disability Gateway program and ensuring every client receives the right support at the right time.

Duties

  • Conduct intake and referral support while providing a calming and informative customer experience.
  • Perform thorough research within KPI duration to connect clients with validated information.
  • Identify risks and vulnerabilities and connect callers to appropriate services or provide relevant information.
  • Assist callers in navigating government funding systems (e.g., NDIS, My Aged Care).

Our Benefits

We support people to live their best life. That includes you, our employee. A 'best life' is unique to everyone and can change as life changes:

  • Salary Benefits- You can package up to $15,900 pa of your pre-tax salary to pay for everyday expenses before income tax is calculated, meaning you take home even more pay
  • Work/Life Balance- Enjoy flexible work arrangements, including hybrid home/office options.
  • Recognition and Reward- Sector competitive remuneration, various recognition programs and access to long service leave after 5 years.
  • Wellness - Stay fit with a Fitness passport, utilise our Employee Assistance Program, and even purchase additional leave.
  • Professional Development - We tailor career development opportunities to all employees and volunteers for career enrichment, fulfilment, and growth.
  • Our Reconciliation Commitment – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees are entitled up to 2 days paid plus up to 10 days unpaid cultural leave, as well as the option to be a voice on reference networking groups, the opportunity for cultural and professional development that supports career pathways and your social and emotional wellbeing.

Skills & Experience

We want you to be successful in your new role This means you'll have experience in the community services sector and:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the sector and familiarity with Australian government funding bodies (e.g., NDIS, My Aged Care, child and family services) is beneficial.
  • Customer service experience, particularly in phone-based roles or call centres, is preferable.
  • High level of emotional regulation and agility, along with compassion and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Technologically savvy with the ability to navigate multiple computer systems and multitask effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and a focus on the task at hand.
  • Inquisitive and eager to learn more about available services and programs.
  • Certificate III or IV, or a Diploma in aged care, community care, disability services, community services, or related fields such as psychology, counselling, mental health, or social work is highly advantageous.
