Position Summary
The Systems Administrator will be a key technical resource within our Managed Service team, responsible for the reliable operation, maintenance, and security of diverse IT infrastructures for our client base. This role involves managing cloud environments, virtualisation platforms, Microsoft systems, and providing escalated technical support, requiring a strong mix of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
System Administration and Maintenance
- Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
- Manage and support Virtualisation platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and associated SAN/NAS storage solutions.
- Perform regular system updates, patching, and preventative maintenance across client servers and endpoints using Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools.
- Manage and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 / Azure / AWS environments, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and Conditional Access policies.
- Ensure the implementation and testing of robust data backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions are in place for all client systems.
Security and Network Operations
- Implement and manage endpoint security tools, firewalls, and network access controls to maintain client security posture.
- Proactively monitor system performance, logs, and security alerts to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact clients.
- Assist in managing and troubleshooting core network components (switches, routers, Wi-Fi access points) as a Level 3 escalation point.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of client network configurations, server environments, and key IT assets.
Technical Support and Projects
- Act as a Level 3 escalation point for complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by the helpdesk team, providing expert diagnosis and resolution.
- Lead or assist in technical projects, including server migrations, cloud deployments, hardware upgrades, and new client onboarding.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with clients regarding the status of projects, issues, and system changes.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 technicians.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience:
- 3+ years of progressive experience in IT systems administration, preferably within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or multi-client environment.
- Demonstrated experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Core Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Microsoft Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) administration and troubleshooting.
- Strong practical experience with Virtualisation technologies (VMware ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V).
- Proficiency in administering Microsoft 365 (Exchange, Azure AD, Intune/Endpoint Manager).
- Familiarity with PowerShell or other scripting languages for automation and batch job creation.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs) and security best practices.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills under pressure.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to non-technical clients.
- Strong ability to manage time, prioritise tasks across multiple client environments, and meet deadlines.
Desirable Qualifications (Highly Regarded)
- Current technical certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, MCSA, VMware VCP, CompTIA Security+).
- Experience with specific MSP tools (e.g., ConnectWise Automate/Manage, Datto RMM/BDR, Kaseya).
- Experience with advanced network firewall configuration (e.g., Cisco Meraki, Fortinet, SonicWall).
- Knowledge of compliance standards relevant to client industries (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, ISO
