About the role
Lung Foundation Australia is seeking an experienced and strategic
Media and PR Specialist.
This pivotal role is responsible for Lung Foundation Australia's media and public relations strategy, raising the brand's visibility. You will proactively identify opportunities and craft powerful stories that elevate our reputation as a leading voice in the health and not-for-profit sectors.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, you will be the organisation's media and PR lead. You will also contribute to communications activities, including newsletters, corporate publications and digital content, ensuring brand alignment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Media and public relations management:
Develop and deliver media and PR activity to increase Lung Foundation Australia's brand visibility. Build strong media relationships and manage proactive and reactive media opportunities. Support media spokespeople with key messages that ensure brand consistency and integrity. - Strategic storytelling
: Find and share powerful stories that highlight the experiences of people with lung disease and lung cancer. - Corporate communication:
Contribute to the development of newsletters, corporate reports, blogs, and supporter publications. - Performance monitoring and reporting:
Evaluate media impact and adjust strategy accordingly.
About you
You are an experienced public relations professional with a passion for strategic storytelling and a deep understanding of the media landscape. You're a strategic thinker who understands what needs to be offered to journalists to get a story pitch over the line. You thrive in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment and are skilled at identifying and leveraging media opportunities.
Essential skills and attributes include:
- Tertiary qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in media and public relations, ideally within the non-profit or health sector.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing media strategies that increase brand awareness.
- Exceptional storytelling, writing and editing skills, with experience translating complex subject matter into accessible, engaging content.
- Experience managing media campaigns, using strategic media relations to drive advocacy, action and raise awareness.
- Ability to manage on-the-ground media opportunities including press conferences, media interviews and shoots.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
