Join the Department of Housing and Public Works as an AO4 Policy Officer in the Procurement Policy team This temporary role offers the chance to apply your research and analysis skills to support managers and shape the Queensland Procurement Policy, along with its tools and templates. As an AO4 Policy Officer your work will focus on researching and analysing procurement issues, undertaking jurisdictional scans, preparing draft briefs and reports, supporting consultation activities, and maintaining procurement guidance materials to ensure alignment with government priorities and best practice. You will contribute flexibly to both procurement policy development and providing project support for team initiatives and projects.

As a Policy Officer, you will:


• Undertake research and jurisdictional scans on procurement-related issues to  support the development of policies, strategies, and initiatives.

• Analyse data, trends, and stakeholder feedback to provide evidence-based insights that inform decision-making.

• Assist in drafting high-quality briefing notes, reports, correspondence, and policy documents that align with organisational standards and government priorities, ensuring accuracy, clear structure, and timely delivery.

• Manage the team's mailbox by providing timely and professional responses to queries from agencies, suppliers, and stakeholders, and assist in delivering accurate advice and guidance on the application of procurement policies, frameworks, and processes.

• Support the preparation of engaging and informative content for internal and external communication channels, including eNewsletters and Queensland Government Procurement's social media platforms, while collaborating with communication teams to ensure alignment with broader messaging strategies.

• Provide hands-on project support to the Manager and the broader team, including organising meetings, preparing project documentation, maintaining project records, and tracking progress to ensure project delivery remains on schedule.

• Assist with the day-to-day operational tasks required for project delivery, such as compiling data, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and deadlines.

• Assist in consultation activities by collating and analysing stakeholder feedback, preparing summaries, and taking accurate minutes during meetings and workshops to support the development of actionable insights and recommendations.

• Support the review, development, and maintenance of procurement guidance materials, tools, and templates to ensure they remain accurate, user-friendly, and relevant, while contributing to process improvements.

The skills you will need include:


• Ability to work independently and exercise initiative in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, responding effectively to shifting priorities, evolving policy requirements, and varying delivery methods.

• Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and synthesise information from diverse sources to provide actionable insights.

• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate and high-quality briefs, reports, and correspondence tailored to diverse audiences.

• Sound judgment and the ability to provide practical, evidence-based advice to agencies and suppliers, with minimal supervision or direction.

• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight timeframes.

• Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Flexibility and adaptability to adjust delivery approaches and respond quickly to changing priorities, while maintaining focus and delivering outcomes in a dynamic and evolving environment.
