Reporting to the APAC General Counsel, the
Senior Legal Counsel
is responsible for the delivery of high quality, timely and cost-effective legal services to meet the business' strategic and operational needs. This is a
permanent full-time
position based in
North Sydney
, NSW.

So, what's the job?

  • You'll mainly focus on Australia & New Zealand regions & other Asian entities
  • You'll provide quality, timely and cost-effective 'solutions orientated' corporate & commercial legal advice, across some of the following key areas:

  • Financial services advice & distribution laws

  • General commercial & corporate law
  • Competition & consumer protection law
  • Regulatory inquiries, investigations & regulatory reform
  • Intellectual property, branding & technology
  • Data protection & privacy law
  • Commercial disputes & litigation
  • Employment law is not essential but is a bonus

  • You'll draft, negotiate & advise on insurance distribution & service contracts as well as commercial contracts (including information technology, outsourcing and third-party contracts)

  • You'll provide legal advice in relation to product development, legislative and regulatory changes
  • You'll advise and assist in regulatory dealings & engagement
  • You'll mentor junior staff members, develop precedents & deliver training to the Business
  • You'll support with Company Secretarial functions as well as identifying & managing governance issues
  • You'll provide support to APAC General Counsel and take on delegated duties as requested

  • You will have a strong understanding of company statutory reporting requirements
  • Strong written communications skills & ability to produce a variety of documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought, and orderliness of presentation

And what are we looking for?

  • Min 10+ years qualified legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Law with a current unrestricted practising certificate
  • Extensive Corporate/Commercial experience essential with Financial Services product, general insurance and/or travel insurance exposure beneficial but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of the Corporations Act, particularly Ch 7
  • Demonstrated experience in providing quality in-house legal services
  • Experience in offering a client focussed approach to legal services delivery
