About the Job

As a member of the Bama Dakil Diversion Centre team, you will reduce cycles of public intoxication and related harm through providing responsive, respectful and dignified support to people who are frequent users of substances in public spaces and at risk of imprisonment. Using harm minimisation, cultural safety and trauma informed practices the practical, supervisory and administrative duties undertaken will maintain a welcoming, safe, nurturing and culturally affirming environment at the Centre. 

You play a vital role enabling clients to stabilise, get nourishment and hydrate, rest and recover and to feel valued and assist clients people explore options, engage in meaningful activities, connect with services and community support networks. You will assist our internal community transport, case management, activity and detainee support services and maintain positive relations with partner organisations and referrers such as Police, Queensland Health, Department of Corrective Services and Centrelink.

To Be Successful You Will Need

  • A high level of commitment to the values of Anglicare North Queensland.
  • Prior experience assisting and encouraging clients to reach personal goals and positive outcomes.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations and challenging behaviors.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures including food hygiene and manual handling.
  • Strong understanding and practice of professional boundaries.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing mental health challenges will be highly regarded.
  • Awareness and/or experience working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and communities will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds will be highly regarded.

Compliance

  • A current QLD drivers licence 'Class C' or interstate equivalent
  • Blue Card (Working with children card)
  • A current national Police Check (within the last 3 months)
  • Hold or be willing to obtain a current CPR & First Aid certificate
