Back to Business is seeking a knowledgeable Accountant or Assistant Accountant to join our professional team on a full-time in-office basis with a strong focus on Tax Return & Business Activity Statement (BAS) preparation for individuals and small businesses.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Prepare and lodge BAS and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with current tax laws
  • Assist in the preparation of tax returns for individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts, and superannuation funds, while ensuring accuracy and timely submission
  • Work directly with clients to ensure their compliance needs are met while providing support to help them improve their tax outcomes
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and basic management reports, ensuring adherence with accounting standards and client requirements
  • Collaborate with other team members and provide review of staff work, while fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment
  • Stay updated on relevant tax legislation, accounting standards, and best practices to ensure continuous professional growth
  • Provide support to the team, including assisting with complex tax issues and client enquiries as needed

Experience & qualifications:

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in an assistant or accounting role, within public practice
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and membership with a recognised accounting body
  • Proven experience with BAS, GST, and tax compliance across various entity types (individuals, partnerships, companies, trusts)
  • Skilled in client communication, relationship management, and independent workload management
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Proficient in Xero, QuickBooks, Reckon, and tax software (Access Elite an advantage)
  • Experience in tax planning and supporting clients with strategy optimisation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt and learn new tools and technologies
  • Full Australian working rights and current residence
