Join a team that's All Kinds of Useful
At Origin, being useful is more than a tagline - it's how we approach work every day. As a collective, we're a team that thrives on finding better ways, working together, and owning our impact. From powering homes to delivering award-winning internet and helping to lead Australia's energy transition. If you're driven by purpose and excited to be part of something bigger, we'd love to have you on the journey.
About the role
At Origin, we're a purpose-led, values-driven organisation and we're committed to finding a better way and shaping a more sustainable future.
We are seeking a Senior Corporate Commercial Lawyer to join our high-performing Legal team. This role will see you work on some of the most dynamic and complex legal matters in the energy sector - advising on joint ventures, commercial transactions, and projects that are at the heart of Origin's energy portfolio. Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide strategic legal advice on the establishment and management of joint ventures and other commercial arrangements.
- Draft and negotiate complex agreements, including in respect of infrastructure, gas supply and transportation, processing, connection, and asset acquisitions and divestments.
- Advise on energy tender processes and associated commercial arrangements connected to Origin's generation and storage assets (e.g. capacity investment schemes, REZ access rights, system strength services).
- Build strong, trusted relationships across the business, influencing decision-making and proactively identifying opportunities to add value.
- Guide and manage external counsel to ensure efficient, commercially focused outcomes.
- Support education and training initiatives to help reduce legal and regulatory risk.
What will you bring?
You will be an experienced commercial lawyer who thrives on complexity and variety, with the initiative to make an impact. You'll also have:
- Demonstrated PQE (8+ years) with significant commercial law experience, including drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
- Australian legal qualifications and a current practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Strong influencing, negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to operate across all management levels.
- A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills to build trusted partnerships.
- Energy industry experience (renewables, gas, infrastructure) and both in-house and law firm experience will be highly regarded.
So why join us?
- 20 weeks of paid leave for primary carers with flexible return options.
- Thrive in a culture of personal and professional growth.
- Enjoy a central CBD location with access to parking and public transport.
- Purchase up to four additional weeks of leave annually.
- Engage in opportunities through the Origin Foundation to support your community.
- Powering your career with unbeatable perks - Get discounted electricity, gas, and internet as an Origin employee.
- Explore unique and cost-effective employee EV Car subscriptions.
