Job DescriptionThe Business & Data Analyst is a key support role within the C&I IT team, focused on digital enablement and delivering data-driven insights during a period of organisational change.
Working at the intersection of business needs and technical delivery, the role is responsible for the end-to-end management of requirements. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to gather, interpret, and validate requirements, translating them into actionable deliverables (such as user stories and conceptual models), and ensuring these are delivered with a focus on design thinking and human-centred design principles. The role is crucial for improving systems and processes across multiple colleges and shared services.
Business Analysis & Process Optimisation:
- Partner with business stakeholders to elicit, document, and validate clear functional and non-functional requirements.
- Map, review, and optimise existing business processes to support efficiency, user experience, digitisation, and automation.
- Translate complex business needs into structured documentation, including process maps, user stories, and specifications, suitable for technical delivery teams (developers, integration specialists, and service-management).
- Contribute to test planning, facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and assist with user training and change communication.
Data Analysis & Insight Enablement
- Collaborate with Corporate and C&I Data Teams to gather reporting and data-analysis requirements.
- Translate specific business questions into structured technical specifications for data modelers and Business Intelligence (BI) developers.
- Conduct analysis and generate insights using agreed data sources to support operational planning and continuous improvement.
- Validate report and analysis outputs with stakeholders, ensuring their usability, accuracy, and alignment with business context.
- Ensure data integrity and adherence to divisional and corporate data governance standards.
Digital Delivery & Technology Improvement
- Support integration and automation projects by defining clear business logic and requirements.
- Contribute to IT Service Management (ITSM) improvement initiatives, such as service-desk optimisation, knowledge-management uplift, and asset-tracking standardisation.
- Participate in project triage and prioritisation for the digital enablement portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Liaise effectively with Corporate IT and external vendors regarding solution design and implementation feedback.
Collaboration & Governance
- Actively participate in project delivery, coordination, planning, and task refinement activities.
- Proactively identify and document new opportunities for automation and reporting with the Digital Enablement and IT Operations teams.
- Ensure all analysis and documentation meet corporate standards for quality, privacy, and data security.
- Maintain effective working relationships across internal divisional, group, and business unit teams, and with external vendors.
Essential:
- Degree or equivalent experience in Business Analysis, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end business analysis, including requirements elicitation, process mapping, and documentation.
- Proven ability to translate business needs into clear, actionable technical, system, or data requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and working collaboratively within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and priorities effectively.
- A growth mindset and a proactive approach to learning and applying new documentation and analysis techniques.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with documenting or reviewing information systems architecture/stack, including emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications.
- Experience in creating and maintaining modern, easily accessible technology documentation.
- Understanding of the higher-education or multi-site organisational context.
- Familiarity with agile or hybrid project-delivery methodologies.
- Working knowledge of enterprise systems such as CRM, LMS, or ERP, and productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace).
- Understanding of data modelling principles or process automation tools.
