Data Analyst

Collaborating with our technology partners, Enterprise Data is a centralised function that partners with the business on delivering an integrated data strategy to help Great Southern Bank achieve its strategic priorities. This includes:
- Responsibility for growing and maintaining the bank's Enterprise Data Platforms, Reporting & Analytics systems to deliver fit-for-purpose and well-engineered data solutions.
- Empower the business with trusted, timely, data-driven insights to drive customer growth.
- Harness data and decision science to deliver better customer experiences at scale.
- Embed a data-driven culture across the organisation, investing in talent and capability and cultivating collaboration, trust and growth.
Your team provides services to all functions of the organisation, including the Customer Office, Product, Finance, Treasury, Risk, Regulatory and Operational divisions of the bank.
You'll make an impact by:
Analytics & Insights
- Leverage Great Southern Bank data to provide insights which drive data led decisions
- Tell stories with data using engaging visualisation, or presentations to communicate your key messages
- Timely & accurate delivery of a range of data solutions to internal stakeholders to provide insights into Great Southern Bank's business operations.
- Pro-actively investigate and apply innovative and new analytical and statistical techniques and packages to support the organisation on its data maturity journey
- Identifying data gaps and potential opportunities for business growth and further exploration.
- Accountable for contributing to a culture of exceptional service, teamwork, commitment to excellence and a professional ethic that enables the achievement of team and organisational objectives.
- You contribute to the day-to-day operations of your team, including meeting service standards, communication and responding to ongoing team direction.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Nurture productive relationships with a range of stakeholders, constructively challenging and proactively contributing to achieve outcomes.
- You engage in discovery processes with key stakeholders to capture, understand and interpret their business problems and determine the areas of analysis and insight investigation.
- You help proactively manage stakeholder expectations by clearly communicating the status of work delivery and highlighting potential blockers, issues or risks.
- You conduct analysis or build data products to help your stakeholders solve problems through data and provide consultative support to guide them on how to use insights or data products to help make business decisions.
Maintaining the data environment
- You provide requirements and findings to data engineers to help map, validate, and document data transformation between data layers, and perform user acceptance testing on the data products.
- You use your strong attention to detail to assure the quality of the data you use for your business recommendations and providing input to uplift, and help communicate any issues to those impacted.
- You work closely with Data Stewards to ensure data quality and consistency, and support them in finding root cause of quality issues.
- You make recommendations on how to consolidate data definitions or improve efficiencies and reusability within the data landscape, including consolidating dashboards or data products
Risk Management
- Be constantly vigilant of risks in your day-to-day work and interactions, applying your common sense and compliance training.
- Identify, capture and report data gaps, quality issues and potential issues that require further exploration.
- Timely & accurate delivery of work, escalating potential issues and risks appropriately.
- Implement and monitor the Great Southern Bank risk management process to eliminate or minimise WHS hazards and risks where appropriate and manage and respond to any hazards/incidents raised by your team.
Do things differently with us
To succeed in this role, you will have:
Ideally, you will have been in an analytics role for 3+ years with the following exposure:
- Experience with SQL to solve for analytical business problems.
- Experience with relevant programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Scala etc.).
- Proven understanding of ETL Systems and Processes, ideally on a cloud data platform.
- Experience working with raw and complex data.
- Experience contributing to building data marts or data modelling for an organisation (desirable).
- Demonstrates initiative, sound analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrates experience presenting complex information simply and directly to both business and technical stakeholders.
- Consultative approach. You are not afraid to challenge stakeholder needs and interpret what they are really trying to ask for.
- You understand the importance of data as a key business enabler, and can anticipate and communicate opportunities from new and existing data sources.
- Demonstrates experience in solving a wide variety of problems through analytic approaches.
Essential
Your qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in business, finance, IT, computer science, mathematics, economics or equivalent
- Qualifications and/or experience in SQL.
Desirable
- Programming skills in relevant language i.e. Python, R, Scala, etc.
- Independent learning i.e. Datacamp, Kaggle etc.
- Highly Desirable: Experience on Cloud Data Service Offerings i.e. AWS, GCP, Azure etc.
- Experience with visualisation methods and tools (i.e. Power BI/ Tableau).
- Databricks knowledge (& Certification) would by highly regarded
