Hawthorne Civil is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to support our continued growth and ensure smooth payroll operations across the business.
About the role
As a Payroll Officer you will be responsible for processing weekly payroll for a workforce of 250+ employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with EBAs and company policies. The role also includes handling payroll queries, supporting employee onboarding and offboarding, assisting with project payroll requirements, and providing general administrative support to the finance and business support team.
What You'll Do
As our Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Processing weekly payroll for 250+ employees accurately and on time
- Managing payroll queries, paperwork, and mail, ensuring all changes are actioned within the relevant pay cycle
- Employee onboarding and offboarding processes, including setup and exit documentation
- Supporting project teams with payroll requirements when mobilising and running projects
- Interpreting and applying EBAs and Awards, with CFMEU Agreement experience highly desirable
- Maintaining compliance with relevant legislation, company policies, and industry requirements
- Assisting with broader business administration duties where required
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience processing high-volume payroll (250+ employees)
- Knowledge of payroll systems - experience with FoundU, Upvise, and Docket Book will be highly regarded although not essential.
- Strong understanding of EBAs, Awards, and entitlements in the civil construction sector
- Experience supporting payroll for project-based workforces
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to resolve payroll queries effectively
- High level of accuracy, organisation, and confidentiality
- Willingness to assist with wider business admin tasks when required
