The Statutory Reporting and Policy team provides expert advice and support at a whole-of-agency level, ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements under the Financial Accountability Act 2009. This team plays a pivotal role in preparing the agency's annual financial statements, coordinating assurance activities, developing financial management policies, and overseeing departmental taxation compliance.

As the Manager, Statutory Reporting and Policy, you will lead a high-performing team to deliver on these responsibilities while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.

This temporary vacancy is available until June 2026, with the possibility of extension.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert advice on legislation, frameworks, policies, and practices relevant to financial management and governance.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting in line with statutory requirements and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the Financial Management Practice Manual and associated policies and guidelines.
  • Build staff capability through coaching, mentoring, and professional development strategies.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the Queensland Audit Office, internal audit units, and Queensland Treasury.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, directives, accounting standards, and departmental policies.
  • Proactively manage team performance and personal conduct.
  • Undertake emerging activities to support the department's evolving needs, including responding to machinery-of-government changes.

What We're Looking For

To excel in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in the preparation, review and submission of monthly and annual reporting to meet legislative and government requirements, processes and obligations.
  • Successful experience in the provision of accounting advice and support to Senior Management in respect of financial policy initiatives, accounting guidelines, accounting standards and advanced accounting and business processes in alignment with the strategic objectives of the organisation
  • Successfully maintained productive working relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including working collaboratively with team members, within a diverse purchaser / provider environment.
  • Demonstrated public service professionalism and probity; and engagement in continuous improvement of work practices, systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated high level of expertise with Microsoft Excel and Word and a good working knowledge of SAP or a similar finance system.
  • Demonstrated high level communication skills (both verbal and written) including consultation, negotiation and liaison skills and the ability to listen carefully to others.
