Gunnedah South Public School is located in regional NSW, serving a diverse student population. There are approximately 545 students enrolled, with 240 identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 23 students having a language other than English spoken at home. There are 24 mainstream classes and one multi-categorical class.
The Itinerant Support Teacher Hearing position is based at Gunnedah South Public School. It involves travelling to support students who are Deaf and hard of hearing in a range of educational settings, including those prior to school age, preschool, primary school, high school, schools for specific purposes (SSP), and support classes. The suitable applicant requires a current driver's licence, and a willingness to travel between work sites
Selection CriteriaApproval to teach Hearing Impairment. Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate quality, inclusive learning plans to meet the complex needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) from age of diagnosis to Year 12 across educational settings.
Demonstrated capacity and willingness to engage in professional learning, including hearing technology, Auslan, Key Word Sign, and augmentative communication systems to support communication and access to the curriculum.
- Highly developed time-management and organisational skills with a proven capacity to work independently, manage multiple tasks concurrently, and use departmental resources effectively to achieve objectives within set deadlines.
- Proven capacity to quickly build positive relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and carers, and external agencies to meet the needs of DHH students.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
Special NotesThis is a permanent part-time position of 3 per week, 0.6FTE (full time equivalent)
