M365 Specialist

NEC is seeking a highly experienced M365 Specialist to drive key technology initiatives across the organisation.

The primary responsibility of the M365 Specialist is to own and take responsibility for the design, implementation and configuration of the M365 ecosystem in order to deliver a high level of compliance against controls associated with Maturity Level 2 of the Essential 8 Framework.

The role will have a deep understanding of the Essential 8 Framework and implementation of compliance controls leveraging the M365 ecosystem. This will include understanding how these will impact the end user experience and how to effectively communicate and manage those impacts.

Secondary function of the role is to support the business in maturing our M365 capability, drive adoption, improvement and better end user experience by leveraging the best of what the Microsoft ecosystem has to offer.

Primary Accountabilities

Solution Design and Architecture

• Analyse client requirements to design M365 solutions that align with business goals.
• Collaborate with architects to define scalable and secure M365 environments.
• Create technical documentation, including solution designs and implementation plans.
• Lead detailed design efforts for complex M365 deployments and integrations.

Subject Matter Expertise

• Own and maintain deep knowledge of customer-specific M365 configurations and environments.
• Provide expert guidance for complex migrations, upgrades, and service configurations.
• Experience in tenant migrations.
• Essential 8 Framework

Implementation and Configuration

• Deploy and configure M365 services including Defender, Application Control, Intune and others.
• Ensure compliance with security policies, governance standards, and Microsoft best practices.

Client Engagement and Consultation

• Conduct workshops and discovery sessions to understand client needs.
• Present tailored M365 solutions and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Translate technical concepts into clear, business-relevant language.
• Author detailed design documents and As-Built documentation.

Troubleshooting and Support

• Diagnose and resolve issues across M365 services, including mail flow, access, and collaboration problems.
• Perform health checks and assessments to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Provide escalation support and contribute to incident resolution.

Security Compliance and Essential 8

• Stay current with the ASD Essential 8 Framework and controls relevant to the 9 domains that are governed by the framework
• Design solutions that will deliver compliance against the controls up to Maturity Level 2 across the end user environment with the M365 ecosystem
• Develop a testing methodology along with document evidence that will withstand scrutiny from independent auditors to prove compliance against Essential 8 controls

Required Skills and Experience

• 8 year's enterprise experience
• Expert level knowledge of the M365 ecosystem
• Extensive experience in the design, implementation and management of services across the M365 ecosystem
• Deep level of understanding of the Essential 8 framework and maturity levels
• Experience in the design and delivery of E8 compliant solutions across the M365 ecosystem
• High levels of verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to a diverse audience (Technical staff & Management)
• M365 Certifications (Modern Desktop | Security)
