Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Planned Resources Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

Help lead technical advice, shape regulatory outcomes, and drive excellence across Victoria's Building industry.

The Building & Plumbing Commission (BPC) is Victoria's new regulator for building and plumbing. It brings together the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Domestic Building Dispute Resolution Victoria (DBDRV), and the domestic building insurance function of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) into one organisation.

Key functions related to building and plumbing regulation will come together under one roof, including registration, inspection and compliance, practitioner discipline, dispute resolution, and domestic building insurance. These services will now be a part of the BPC and will be fully integrated over the next 12 months.  The OSBS is the main source of technical expertise for industry and practitioners in Victoria. From February 2024, the Building Legislation Amendment Act 2023 established the State Building Surveyor as a statutory appointment with a range of additional functions and powers to strengthen its significance and effectiveness.

To reinforce the function of the BPC and support the increased leadership team an opportunity has come up for Manager, Technical Services, technical advice and guidance.

About the Role

The Building Surveyor, (Training and Education) role provides expert technical advice in the delivery of State Building Surveyor functions, with a focus on the delivery of training and education.

The role will contribute to the continuous improvement of building standards and compliance in Victoria through the provision of education and training material. Specifically, the role will involve deep diving into codes and regulations to create and present education and training guidance to industry, by way of webinars, industry seminars, short training videos etc.

Reporting to the Manager, this role will support the implementation and/or ongoing delivery of nominated projects to achieve the BPC's strategic goals and responsibilities under the Building Act.

What We Are Looking For

Consideration will only be given to candidates with:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, with current Registration.
  • Significant experience practising as a Building Surveyor.
  • Substantial knowledge and practical application of the building industry and regulatory framework including the Building Act, Building Regulations and National Construction Code and other relevant legislation in Victoria and/or other Australian jurisdictions.

An attractive salary package and conditions will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The OSBS value and encourage flexibility, to support a diverse, adaptive, and high-performing workforce.
