The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association (ALAEA) represents the industrial, technical, and professional interests of Australian Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAMEs). Founded in 1964, the association has a successful history and is a key player in aviation industrial and regulatory issues. Its membership includes LAMEs from regular public transport, regional airlines, General Aviation, technical staff, and engineering support staff.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site Industrial Officer role located in Bexley, NSW. The Industrial Officer will be responsible for handling industrial relations matters, negotiating collective agreements, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations in the aviation industry. The role will involve day-to-day communication with members, management, and external stakeholders.

The role involves:

  • Representing members in:

o   Workplace disputes

o   Enterprise agreement negotiations

o   Contract negotiations

o   Unfair dismissals

o   Disciplinary processes

o   dispute resolution

o   Proceedings before the Fair Work Commission
- Provision of assistance and advice to all levels of the union on industrial matters
- Working collaboratively with other staff, elected officials and workplace representatives
- Research, preparation and advocacy before the Fair Work Commission

Essential

  • Applicants will need to possess or be eligible to obtain a Aviation Security Identification Card
  • Applicants will need to eligible to obtain a Right of Entry Permit from the Fair Work Commission
  • Hold a valid Australian driver's licence
  • Be a permanent resident of Australia
  • Have a commitment to unionism
  • Sound oral and written communication
  • Ability to work within a small team, including commitment to teamwork, and the ability to maintain positive working relationships
  • Ability to acquire, or knowledge, of employment law and industrial legislation
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of Civil Aviation legislation
  • Ability to interpret enterprise agreements, employment contracts, policies and legislation
  • Computer literacy and ability to learn Microsoft 365

Desirable

  • Experience in aviation
  • Experience in industrial relations or unionism
  • Experience in negotiation and advocacy
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or industrial relations
