The opportunity
As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our volunteer program at Cancer Council WA (CCWA).
This role is a wonderful opportunity to champion volunteering at CCWA — inspiring, attracting, and welcoming new volunteers, while providing the support, training, and encouragement they need to thrive. You'll play a key role in developing resources and policies, and ensuring our program reflects the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement, creating a rewarding and meaningful experience for all.
Based in Subiaco, this position is part-time (0.6 FTE).
What you'll be doing:
You'll be the driving force behind an engaging and successful volunteer program by:
• Building strong relationships and raising the profile of volunteering.
• Supporting program managers and coordinators with their volunteer programs
• Recruiting, welcoming, and onboarding new volunteers.
• Creating a positive, connected, and rewarding volunteer experience.
• Providing training, development, and ongoing support.
• Coordinating schedules and activities to meet program goals.
• Keeping accurate records and managing program resources.
• Ensuring programs meet best practice and National Standards.
• Representing CCWA at events and sharing our volunteering story.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need:
• A tertiary qualification in social services or related field and 2+ years recent experience in Volunteer management
• An ability to select, train, supervise and support volunteers within a community setting
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including an ability to work well with people from diverse cultures
• High level planning, organisational skills and an ability to prioritise a diverse workload
• Demonstrated understanding of the support and information needs of people affected by cancer, their carers and their families (desirable)
• Experience of working within the context of a not-for-profit community organisation (desirable)
• Highly developed computer skills, including previous experience with databases and Microsoft suite
• An ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively
• An ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
• A sound understanding of WHS issues as they related to volunteers
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
• Positive approach to the workplace
