Why Central Australian Aboriginal Congress?
Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation in the Northern Territory and are one of the most experienced Aboriginal primary health care services in the country.
Congress provides a comprehensive, holistic and culturally - appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs, including eight remote communities, it is a strong political advocate of closing the gap on Aboriginal health disadvantage and a national leader in improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal people.
About the role
This is an exciting new position within Congress. We are looking for the right person to come and join our team as a Culture Care Connect Suicide Prevention Worker.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities continue to be significantly impacted by suicide and suicidal ideation. The Culture Care Connect program seeks to overcome the inequality experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, integrating suicide prevention planning and response activity by developing and delivering trauma-aware, healing-informed aftercare services which take into consideration the intersection between AOD, SEWB and other complementary programs.
The Culture Care Connect Suicide Prevention Worker is responsible for providing assertive and timely follow-up care for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people referred to this service following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis, in line with the co-designed aftercare model of care.
The person in this role will be resourced with strong training and ongoing support mechanisms including clinical and cultural supervision.
The ideal candidate will be a person with:
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or equivalent training and/or relevant experience.
- Mental Health qualifications and/or experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant legislation and policy frameworks.
- Client focused with an ability to advocate on the client's behalf g. Ability to multi-task, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in computer software including electronic medical software and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Demonstrated experience in office administration tasks.
- Willingness to undertake further study as required.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge and commitment to the principles of Primary Health Care.
- Commitment to personal and professional development including the sharing of knowledge, information and skills with work colleagues.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, and communities.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people and a willingness to incorporate Aboriginal values into clinical practice.
- Current driver's licence.
