Where you'll be working:

Population and Community Health (PaCH) is part of South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.

PaCH provides community health services that give care to individuals, families and carers, as well as population health services that focus on the whole community or key groups within the community.

PaCH's services are provided at the District's hospitals, community-based facilities including child and family health centres, community health centres and specialist clinics. We work with other service providers across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, including hospitals and mental health services.

The Role:

Provide a high quality executive and administrative service to support the efficient and effective operation of the environmental health team to achieve business and service objectives.

The Environmental Health and Tobacco Control Support Officer is part of a team of public health practitioners who plan, implement and control environmental health risk, including on cruise vessels. The Environmental Health and Tobacco Control Support Officer supports the team in activities which protect the public from physical, chemical, and biological agents in the environment which may adversely impact on human health.

This position will be strongly aligned with the Tobacco Control Program and will primarily assist the senior officer with tobacco control activities, while still supporting the Environmental Health Team across the full range of responses to environmental health risks.

The Environmental Health and Tobacco Control Support Officer will be required to undertake activities outside normal business hours as the need requires.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Science or Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent as determined by the organisation, or relevant equivalent work experience or a combination of study and work experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the processes of contemporary issues in environmental health and tobacco control, including an understanding of environmental health and tobacco control legislation in NSW
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare correspondence and reports, pulling together information from various sources
  • High level skills with MS suite of software
  • Demonstrated skills in managing a number of projects/investigations concurrently.
  • Current drivers licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position)
