Job Description

BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We're leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We're proud of brands, like COLORBOND steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.

The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Coke Plant 2 - Asset Development team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Mechanical Project Coordinator. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Cokemaking process plays a crucial role in our manufacturing operations and serves as an initial stage in the Steel making process. As part of this process, we need to transport 40,000 tonnes of coal from our birth to the Coke plant ovens. Over time, this coal is then refined into Coke and serves as a key ingredient at the Blast Furnace.

As a member of the Asset Development team, you will play a key role in supporting, and at times, managing a diverse portfolio of Mechanical Fabrication and Fitting related projects. Your responsibilities will require hands-on stakeholder management to coordinate and collaborate across project scope development, design, procurement, installation, commissioning as well as the ongoing asset support to sustain the performance of our Coke Plant assets.

What Will You Do?

You'll provide support to major capital and R&M projects to drive the continuous improvement of the performance of our Coke plant assets. You'll be responsible for:

  • planning, staging, and working through each aspect of the project lifecycle.
  • liaising with internal and external resources to develop customer requirement specifications, develop scope of work, engage in design review and hand over expectations/deliverables.
  • develop technical specifications and tender to engage contractors to cover all pre work, shut work and commissioning tasks.
  • ensure project documentation is completed including drawings, manuals, data sheets, part lists, cataloguing and punch lists are completed and received from project team to maintenance teams.
  • support project handover by providing technical advice, commissioning and post commissioning support.
  • supervising maintenance and install activities, ensuring safety standards are never compromised.

More About You

You will have experience with site supervision and Industrial project management in a similar environment, and be open to developing yourself further to complete the roles requirements, therefore you will bring:

  • a fabrication or mechanical fitting background in either a trade qualification, diploma or degree.
  • an understanding or experience with interpreting structural fabrication drawings and welding processes.
  • an ability to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling and people demands.
  • experience in plant process, equipment problem solving and reliability improvement
  • exposure with the use of Document control and reporting processes
