We are seeking a highly motivated Program Coordinator to work with our experienced team, primarily based from our hub in Port Kembla, though you will be needed in our pop-up locations as well.  The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in helping to provide key support for fathers and their children where it's needed most.

The Role:

This position is part of a Community Fathering team and is responsible for providing Group Program Support and some limited Case Management support to clients.  The purpose of the role is to assist and empower clients ie men who are fathers or father figures, who are at risk of or struggling with mental health issues, homelessness, family breakdown and relationship issues, financial concerns, restricted access to children, addictions.  This is done by delivering targeted programs, building relationships with services and organisations and supporting our pool of volunteers.

At TFP we utilise a trauma informed, strengths-based and evidence informed approach and methodologies when working with all internal and external stakeholders.

This role will also involve engaging schools and other community organisations in order to provide support and engagement of fathers and father figures in a multitude of different settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver programs/groups (Connect, Presence, Dads groups) – some outside normal office hours work may be required from time to time.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with associated services, relevant professionals and health organisations.  Attend regular intra-agency or family related network meetings as required by National Manager
  • Support Case Manager by triaging new referrals.  Support Case Manager with Case Work on an as needs basis.
  • Maintain client files and all personal information in alignment with legal obligations as well as The Fathering Projects standards and policies.
  • Coordinate and provide ongoing support to TFP Volunteers

Selection Criteria - To be considered for this position you will have:

  • Minimum cert iv in Community Services or equivalent
  • 2+ years of supporting children and families
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the child protection act, mental health act and other relevant legislation
  • Results and outcome oriented and experienced at building networks
  • Demonstrated ability to work with men and families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of evidence-based intervention strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting Aboriginal families using culturally safe and sensitive interventions.
  • Previous Case Work/Case Work Management experience with at risk adults, preferably men, children and their families preferred.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development to ensure a broad range of evidence-based models as determined necessary by the program.
  • You have excellent and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current driving license.
