Taree New South Wales, Australia Unscripted Human Resources Full time $60,000 - $90,000 per year

Barray Alliance (formerly Taree Indigenous Development and Enterprise - TIDE) is an Aboriginal-led, community-focused not-for-profit organisation dedicated to caring for Country and strengthening Aboriginal land management across the Mid North Coast.

We're looking for a hands-on and passionate Aboriginal Ranger Coordinator to lead our Aboriginal Land and Sea Country programs. This is a unique leadership role where you'll combine Traditional Ecological Knowledge with contemporary environmental science to protect Country, support threatened species and build the skills of our Aboriginal ranger workforce.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the delivery of Barray Alliance's Aboriginal Land and Sea Country Strategy
  • Coordinate on-ground projects like fauna monitoring, bush regeneration, erosion control, and habitat restoration
  • Oversee daily operations for ranger crews, including scheduling, logistics, and safety compliance
  • Manage biodiversity projects for koalas, dingoes, flying foxes, microbats, and other native species
  • Build partnerships with Elders, Traditional Owners, landholders, conservation organisations, and research partners
  • Mentor and develop Aboriginal Rangers, supporting skills growth and emerging leaders
  • Represent Barray Alliance in community forums and cross-agency collaborations
  • Ensure all work is delivered to a high standard, aligning with cultural protocols, environmental regulations, and WHS requirements

About you:

  • You identify as Aboriginal (designated position under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977)
  • A Certificate III or IV in Conservation and Land/Ecosystem Management, or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Strong experience in land or sea Country management, Cultural Burning, conservation, or cultural heritage
  • Sound understanding of Work Health & Safety (WHS) requirements and risk management in a field-based environment
  • Comfortable working alongside Elders and communities, respecting and embedding cultural knowledge
  • Hands-on experience in field work, such as biodiversity surveys, fire management, or land care
  • Skilled in team leadership, mentoring, and operational planning
  • Familiar with GIS and mapping tools (or eager to learn)
  • Able to work independently in bushland and remote settings
  • Current, valid NSW 'C' Class (manual) Driver's Licence and ability to safely operate 4WD vehicles in off-road conditions
  • Current NSW Working With Children Check and willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check

Why join us:

  • Work in a meaningful role that combines culture, conservation, and community
  • Be part of a supportive, passionate team driving real outcomes for Country
  • Opportunities for training and professional development
  • A chance to mentor and grow the next generation of Aboriginal land management leaders

Important Information

To keep our team and community safe, you'll need a clear Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check. We'll cover the cost and help you through the process, but both checks must return clear results before you start. Please note that these must be renewed every 12 months, and employment is conditional on maintaining clear checks at all times.

This is a designated position for persons of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
