About Childhood Cancer Support
For 50 years, Childhood Cancer Support has been a lifeline for regional families navigating the unimaginable – a child's cancer diagnosis. We provide a home close to care for families who must relocate to Brisbane so their child can access life-saving treatment at the Queensland Children's Hospital.
With free family-style accommodation, transport assistance, emotional support, and a genuine sense of community, we wrap each family in care and compassion during one of the most challenging times of their lives.
About the Role
As we continue to grow and prepare for the opening of a new 15-unit accommodation village in East Brisbane, we are seeking a compassionate, organised, and proactive Accommodation & Family Support Officer to join our small but dedicated team. This is a hands-on role supporting families from the moment they arrive, ensuring they feel safe, cared for, and connected throughout their stay.
You will coordinate accommodation bookings, manage unit and room preparation, assist with practical matters like Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme paperwork, organise family support programs and events, and liaise with hospital welfare teams at the Queensland Children's Hospital in Brisbane, volunteers, and other support agencies.
Your Key ResponsibilitiesThis is a pivotal role within our organisation. You will be the first point of contact for families that have arrived into Brisbane when their child is diagnosed with cancer.
You will:
- Coordinate accommodation bookings and warmly welcome new families
- Ensure units and rooms are clean, well-presented, and ready for arrival
- Organise family support activities such as BBQs, coffee afternoons, and school holiday programs
- Assist families with practical needs and administrative requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital and community partners
- Provide ongoing non-clinical support and guidance to families
- A compassionate and empathetic nature, with genuine care for families in crisis
- Strong organisational and time management skills

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management
- A collaborative approach and willingness to support team members
- Resilience and adaptability in a dynamic, people-focused environment
