The Opportunity

This is not your average Leading Hand role. You will be a key on-site leader, responsible for driving progress and quality across a wide variety of challenging projects. Reporting to the Site Foreman/Project Manager, you will lead a dedicated crew, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the high standards our clients expect.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of skilled operators and labourers on-site, providing clear direction and hands-on guidance.
  • Executing a diverse range of civil works, including large-scale stormwater systems, detailed excavation, retaining walls, pavements, and concrete structures.
  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications to ensure works are built to design.
  • Championing a culture of safety, conducting pre-start meetings, and ensuring all WHS requirements are met.
  • Coordinating plant, equipment, and materials to maintain project flow.
  • Forecasting and anticipating challenges on-site, using your experience to solve problems proactively.
  • Mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive, productive site environment.

Australian work rights are mandatory for this position.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Proven experience as a Leading Hand or senior civil tradesperson in the Australian civil construction industry.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a Leading Hand or senior civil tradesperson is required.
  • Demonstrated "on-the-tools" experience across a broad range of civil disciplines (e.g., drainage, concrete, earthworks, piling, pavements).
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a site-based team effectively.
  • An uncompromising commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
  • The ability to confidently read and set out from construction plans.
  • A current Australian Driver's Licence (HR licence is advantageous).
  • Relevant industry tickets (e.g., plant operations, dogging, confined space) are highly regarded.
