About the role
The Waste and Recycling Support Officer sits within the Waste and Recycling Branch, Infrastructure and Amenity Division, and offers an exciting opportunity to support Melbourne's essential waste and recycling services.
This role plays a key part in delivering impactful outcomes for our community by providing frontline customer support, coordinating key administrative processes, and assisting the Commercial Waste team with data management, waste permits, and service operations.
You'll be working in a fast-paced environment, helping businesses and residents to access and navigate City of Melbourne's communal waste and recycling services. This is a role where attention to detail, customer focus, and reliability will directly contribute to better sustainability outcomes for the city.
A little more about the role
- Respond to and triage customer enquiries by phone, email, and face-to-face.
- Process and manage waste permit applications, invoices, and purchase orders.
- Maintain accurate data and reporting across systems such as Salesforce and Compass.
- Provide administrative support to Waste Officers, including bookings, agendas, and meeting notes.

About you

What your experience must include (Essential)
- Previous experience in a customer service or administrative support role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and data entry across multiple systems.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully within a team.
What would set you apart (Desirable)
- Knowledge of waste, recycling, or sustainability-related services.
- Experience using Salesforce, Compass, or similar CRMs/databases.
