Come join Health Protection and Regulation Branch as a Manager – Radioanalytical Chemistry where you will provide scientific leadership for the Radioanalytical Chemistry team, under the broad direction of the Director, Radiation Health Unit, with responsibility for planning and managing the laboratory operations, and direct oversight of a small team of radioanalytical chemists and technical staff engaged in measuring, reporting and advising on sources of radiation throughout Queensland.
As a Manager – Radioanalytical Chemistry, you will lead and assign projects and activities to a small team of scientific and technical staff involved in the measurement of radionuclides in samples received by the laboratory, and the development of suitable analytical techniques for routine and emergency situations. You will provide authoritative radiation-related analytical chemistry counsel on a range of complex and diverse matters to individuals and professions or industry groups relevant team leader, partners and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will demonstrate high-level written and oral skills to advocate for and influence improvements in radioanalytical safety and security practices and culture.
Role fit:
- Demonstrated expert consultant-level knowledge and experience and the ability to apply analytical chemistry techniques within a laboratory environment combined with a high-level operational awareness of laboratory safety and procedures for handling hazardous substances.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and implement bodies of work such as investigations and scientific method development, and to critically analyse data and form opinions, apply sound decision-making and communicate and consult confidently and effectively with a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and written skills to prepare and present technical reports and scientific papers of consultant-level quality for regulatory and other purposes and to liaise with all levels of staff, clients and members of the general public.
