Job Description:

As part of the
Heritage Interpretation & Public Art Team at Artefact
you will provide high quality and creative heritage interpretation and public art solutions and advice for a range of projects. These include large scale infrastructure projects to urban and greenfields developments, for government, corporate and community clients.

This creative and project focused role produces Heritage Interpretation Strategies, Heritage Interpretation Plans, Public Art Strategies, manages artist engagement and artwork concept development, interpretive material content and provides professional and creative heritage interpretation & public art advice to a range of clients.

Specifically, this role will project manage a range of interpretation and public art projects, including writing proposals, undertaking research, writing histories, developing interpretive

concepts/solutions, writing reports/reviewing drafts, managing project budgets, managing client liaison, consulting with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal stakeholders, supervising the work of HCs on projects, and working closely with the Team Leader and the team to develop innovative and appropriate interpretive solutions for projects.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum three year
  • Degree in museum studies, curation, heritage, arts administration, cultural heritage or similar discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the museums, visual arts or heritage sector such as heritage consultancies, museums, galleries, local councils, historic houses, parks or equivalent public realm
  • Experience in managing heritage and/ or visual arts projects such as exhibitions, heritage interpretation projects, public art outcomes and producing high quality reports
  • Understanding of the key principles and purposes of heritage interpretation and/ or public art · Excellent project and budget management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in stakeholder management and community consultation, particularly with Aboriginal stakeholders
  • Exceptional writing skills for professional reports and public interpretation material
  • Excellent research skills
  • A positive and creative approach to problem solving
  • Effective time management and ability to manage complex projects and meet competing priorities
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative, proactive attitude

As a 
Senior Heritage Consultant within the Interpretation & Public Art team
, your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Work within the Heritage Interpretation & Public Art Team
  • Deliver high-quality and creative interpretive and public art solutions across a range of projects, from large-scale infrastructure to small urban developments, for government and corporate clients
  • Produce Heritage Interpretation Strategies and Plans
  • Develop Public Art Strategies and Plans
  • Manage artist engagement and artwork concept development
  • Create content for interpretive materials

Project manage a range of interpretation and public art projects, including:

  • Writing proposals
  • Undertaking research
  • Developing interpretive concepts and solutions
  • Writing reports and reviewing drafts
  • Managing project budgets
  • Managing client liaison
  • Consulting with Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal stakeholders
  • Working with designers and production companies on the design and production of interpretive elements for projects
  • Supervising the work of Heritage Consultants on projects
  • Working closely with the Team Leader and team to deliver innovative, appropriate interpretive and public art solutions
