We are looking for an
Electrical Engineer
to join the Electrical and Control Engineering team and provide technical assistance primarily in the bauxite processing plants, stockyards and export facilities. As a key member of the centralised Assets and Operational Services team, you will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of asset classes, including rail assets, beneficiation plants, ship-loaders, wharfs, bridges, power stations, ancillary mining services assets, town assets, and other civil infrastructure.

Senior Electrical Engineer
you will

  • Work alongside other engineering, technical and trade disciplines to provide sustainable and efficient solutions to engineering problems affecting plant stability
  • Facilitate and participate in risk assessments, production and safety incident investigations
  • Conduct reliability assessments to determine major causes of downtime
  • Implement improvement projects or raise detailed maintenance notifications to ensure defect elimination
  • Manage bridging and forcing registers and resolving underlying issues
  • Ensuring engineering resources, structure and systems are in place to support maintenance processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions

What You'll Bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical) or higher, recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Comprehensive knowledge of asset management, service and maintenance of heavy industrial power systems. Mineral processing plant or similar experience is an advantage
  • Comprehensive understanding of LV electrical equipment including distribution assets, protection devices, motors, drives and instrumentation
  • Familiar with relevant regulatory authorities and Australian Standards relating to electrical installations and practices. MQHSA, QLD Electrical Safety Act, AS3000 etc.

It will also be beneficial if you have experience in

  • Power Generation
  • HV Distribution
  • Control System / comms / network experience / TUV
  • Chartered and RPEQ
  • HV experience
  • EEHA
  • SAP Knowledge

Where you'll be working
Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and diverse cultural hub of the Western Cape. Weipa offers a coastal community rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage that provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities, sports and community events. With a strong sense of community, the region has plenty of natural beauty to offer including the opportunities for boating, fishing, camping and exploring. Construction of the Amrun mining operation, located 40 kilometres southwest of Weipa, was completed in late 2018 expanding our bauxite operations to continue production from one of the world's premier bauxite deposits.
