Position Summary

The Treaty Engagement Officer will assist to keep WJJWJ Traditional Owners involved in the Treaty process by encouraging awareness and participation. Sitting within the Culture, People & Place Division, they will accomplish this through exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, ensuring that information is accurately assembled and conveyed between the WJJWJ Community and other partners involved in the Treaty process.

Area & Performance Responsibilities
  • Engage with Wotjobaluk Traditional Owners to encourage awareness of and participation in the Treaty process and nation-building activities;
  • Work with external partners, including State and Local Government, to support the Treaty process on behalf of BGLC;
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with funding agreements and alignment with corporation's objectives.

Key selection criteria

Experience and Attributes

  • High level communication across many audiences and formats;
  • High level ability to listen to and process information from others, including information retention and attention to detail;
  • Understanding of the Treaty process;
  • Experience with community engagement, particularly within Aboriginal communities;
  • Experience working with Government at the local and state level;
  • Ability to work independently, and communicate reliably with all partners;
  • Willingness to travel and work outside of ordinary hours as appropriate and necessary;

Conditions of Employment
  • Must have a full Victorian Drivers Licence (or be willing to obtain with BGLC support); and
  • Ability to obtain positive National Police and Working with Children checks.
