Treaty Project Officer
Are you passionate about Treaty, self-determination, and supporting Traditional Owner voices to lead the way? Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is seeking a committed and capable Treaty Project Officer to support community involvement in Treaty, Native Title, and the broader movement for truth telling and Nation Building.
About the Role
Based in Ballarat or Geelong, with regular travel across Wadawurrung Country, this full time, two-year fixed term position sits within our Recognition and Negotiation program. You will work closely with Co-CEOs, Elders, legal partners, the Wadawurrung Treaty Working Group, and the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria (FPAV) to ensure that Wadawurrung perspectives, priorities, and rights are championed throughout the Treaty process. This is a rare opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping long-term outcomes for Country and community.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate and support community engagement on Treaty and Native Title processes
• Support the Wadawurrung Treaty Working Group and FPAV Treaty delegate
• Organise meetings, information sessions, and cultural events related to Treaty
• Prepare communication materials, reports, and negotiation briefs
• Collaborate with the Recognition and Negotiations team to meet strategic goals
• Attend Treaty related meetings and represent WTOAC with cultural integrity
• Ensure all work is culturally respectful, community driven, and strategically aligned
About You
You're a strong communicator and community connector with a deep respect for Aboriginal led processes. You're proactive, well organised, and passionate about contributing to a stronger future through Treaty and truth telling.
You'll bring:
• Experience in Treaty, Aboriginal affairs, legal, or government policy work
• Strong community engagement, stakeholder coordination, and communication skills
• Ability to prepare clear reports and briefing materials
• Confidence working across political, cultural, and legal contexts
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project coordination tools
• Willingness to travel across Country
Desirable
• Knowledge of Wadawurrung culture, governance, and self-determination
• Experience working with Aboriginal people or in Indigenous employment
• Understanding of Treaty, Native Title, and the role of the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria
